Recently, I helped the McNeill Stone Mansion bed and breakfast with an updated website and moved their web hosting and email to a new server before their existing plan was deprecated.

On the surface, the positive review I received seems like merely validation that the services met or exceeded expectations a customer had, but really it means much more than that to me.

Digging deeper though, a positive review means a lot more to a business or freelancer than just the 5 Stars at face value.

Mentally, launching a business can be exhausting and for every 5 Star Review a customer leaves, there's this sense that if a family or friend had access to the same tools of testimonial at the personal level I wouldn't fare as well.

I've been struggling a lot with that lately.

In a little over two years, I've gone from scraping to get clients to customers in 14 states, unsure of how to compete against corporations like GoDaddy to predominately migrating customers from them, and burning through cash like it was a cigarette to finally sending out more invoices than bills.

At a business level, reviews are highly appreciated because they give other customers confidence and help grow a brand, but on a personal level it means so much more because starting a business is exhausting. Receiving a review is so energizing because it puts perspective that there is value in what's being built outside of just receiving money - that the customer was so pleased in what was offered, they not only paid an invoice but highlighted how valued you were in a small testimonial.
