Occasionally, while updating a WordPress website's themes and plugins, the site will get stuck in maintenance mode.
This typically happens if you attempt to update too many items at once, close out a browser midway through updates or if there is an incompatibility. Sometimes, it just appears to be stuck and could be running slow; however, if you're certain it is stuck you can access the website's directory within your web hosting dashboard or via FTP and delete the .maintenance file.
This will cancel the updates that are still in progress so you can access the WordPress admin area again.
